Bethel United Methodist Church is located on Rt. 42 in Craig County, Virginia, in a community know as Sinking Creek. It sits on Cumberland Gap Road, which was once part of the Cumberland Gap trail leading settlers through the mountains of Southwest Virginia. If you stand on the front porch and look around, you won’t see any other homes or businesses. But don’t be deceived. The congregation is here, willing to serve in this community.
Bethel is part of a two-point charge along with the New Castle UMC located in the town of New Castle, in Craig County. The New Castle Charge is in the Valley Ridge District of the United Methodist Church.
Bethel Church is one of the oldest congregations in the District. The sanctuary was built in 1874. Sunday School rooms and a fellowship room were added in 1975.
